The Morals of Mayhem

June 6, 2017

In my quests for capturing the beauty of destruction and chaos in hopes of becoming a published photographer and contributor to well known and reliable publications-  I have never and will never "break and enter". I am a photographer, not a vandal. It is my ultimate goal to leave the places I find 100% how I found them.

With the rising trend of "URBEX"-ers and "paranormal investigators" along with people who have camera phones that can shoot pretty amazing pictures, the trend of those entering places that may be off limits or dangerous is increasing.

What sets me apart, is I don't generally go into famous well known abandoned places. I look for the real, the authentic, the gritty. I tend to end up in ghettos and projects, or once booming industrial areas. The places I go are very much active, and in the heart of neighborhoods where murder, drugs, and violence are at an astounding rate.

I wear protective gear such as boots, gloves and a respirator, and 99.9% of the time I am in the presence of a Law Enforcement Escort (or let a nearby one know where I'm headed) for safety purposes. The places I go are very much active, and in the heart of neighborhoods where murder, drugs, and violence are at an astounding rate.

I take every precaution to protect myself as well as the building I am in. I usually spend days researching beforehand- and if it's an eye catching spur of the moment I research in the car before going in. If signs are posted- I do not enter. If there is no way in safely or appropriately- I do not enter.

I urge you all to use common sense. Do not go into unknown cities or unknown areas/buildings alone or without an understanding of the danger you may face.
